National Day Parade, Building A LovingSG

“Love Singapore, Our Home” is the theme for this year’s National Day Celebrations. Following tradition, the build up to the big day itself is always jammed packed with exhibitions, roadshows, competitions and of course a special event for participation:

Building a LovingSG

As part of Singapore’s 47th National Day Celebrations, Singaporeans from all walks of life can contribute to the building blocks of National Day Parade (NDP) at the Floating Platform! Spearheaded by a group of young adults from various youth organisations, we want to re-create the rousing celebrations at Marina Bay Floating Platform with over 100,000 LEGO® bricks and LEGO® minifigures.

This project also wants to reach out to Singaporeans from all walks of life, getting them to openly express their love for our country by participating in this record-breaking initiative. Members of the public can be represented by a LEGO minifigure at the ‘celebrations’ by making a $5 donation where they will receive a pair of customised LEGO minifigures – one of the LEGO minifigures will be placed on the seating gallery of the platform, while the other is for their keepsake as a reminder of their participation.

All proceeds received from the project will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund whose mission is to reach out to every child in need and provide them with the resources to do well in school – and beyond.”

Here’s more information on how you can participate:

“As part of Singapore’s 47th National Day Celebrations, Close to 200,000 LEGO® bricks and LEGO® mini-figures will re-create the rousing National Day Parade at the Marina Bay Floating Platform. The “Building a LovingSG” structure will span an area of 12 by 9 metres about the size of a volleyball court and involves over 500 volunteers. This project aims to reach out to Singaporeans from all walks of life, getting them to openly express their love for our country and their fellow Singaporeans by participating in this record-breaking initiative. Members of the public can contribute to this massive structure through their donations. With a minimum donation of SGD$5, they will receive their very own customized LEGO® mini-figures, and another similar one to be placed within the final display. Donations received from the project will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund to aid students in need and provide them with the resources to do well in school – and beyond.

Only 25,000 customised LEGO® mini-figures are created for this purpose!

The website will be up for donations and purchase from 30th May and the roadshows will be ongoing from 16th June 2012 to 24th June 2012. Online donations or purchases can be made at http://ndp.org.sg/participation/building-a-loving-sg from 30th May. Once donation has been made, you will be able to choose the date and venue for the collection of your Lego minifigure. Alternatively, you can simply head down straight to the various roadshows in June to make a donation or purchase your Lego minifigure.

DATE: 16th June 2012 to 24th June 2012
TIME: 9am – 9pm daily
VENUES:
- JCube, Level 5, open plaza
- Tampines Mall, Level 4, TV Room
- Bugis Junction, Atrium, opposite Hotel Intercontinental”

So to all Singaporeans out there, do show your love and full support for this meaningful project. A packet of LEGO Minifigures Series 7 in Singapore? SGD$4.90. SGD$5 for your LEGO minifigure to be seated at the Marina Bay Floating Platform? Priceless ;)

850458 VIP Top 5 Boxed Minifigures

Seriously, I don’t even know why LEGO is producing this set. Basically, it’s more of the same thing but in a different packaging with a fancy name. According to Hoth Bricks, the Elf and the Gorilla Suit Guy is the same, the Fisherman has a new black cap, the Space Villain has a new peg leg and the Mummy comes with a new gold scorpion.

This set is priced at USD$14.99 and available to VIP members only. If I were a non-VIP LEGO fan, I wouldn’t feel I’m missing out much without buying this set lol…
